Player Assessments

Player Assessments

An invaluable tool used in youth sports, the assessment process is a guide for players, parents, and coaches that identifies the skill level of each individual player so as to properly place them in the appropriate level of play.

The assessment process is NOT a tryout.  Ultimately it is the parents and players that have the final decision regarding the level of play to which the player will participate - within the guidelines of the association.

Note: To ensure equal playing time and balanced competition the association may require that players remain at their suggested age level or be moved up.

Assessment Process

Players are grouped by age level.  Each player will perform a series of activities such as running, fielding, throwing and hitting.  Pitching and 'pitch' catching will also be assessed.  A players history is also taken into consideration (number of past seasons played).  Abilities are tallied on a scale of 1-5 (1 is beginner, 5 is exceptional).  Individual assessments are kept confidential - available to CYBSA player agents only.  A sample performance sheet is provided below.

REQUIRED FOR TRAVELING CANDIDATES

This is not a tryout but an assessment to determine ability to keep league teams as even as possible.  This is also for kids that are interested in moving up.  They will be assessed on Throwing, Hitting and Fielding.  Move ups will be based on numbers at the upper level and then a childs ability to play at the next level safely.
